products are made and assembled completely by hand and utilizing both hand and
some power tools. Hand-craftmanship cannot be claimed with the presence of
CNC milling machines or other computer controlled equipment in the production
process.

through the use of non-organic means (i.e. Computer aid, etc.).

(With Solidarity) - The ratio of wages between craftsmen and other
employees will never exceed a ratio of 4:1. While still only a company of
one, this guiding principle is in anticipation of future expansion.

(At Home) - I believe that a socially responsible company must take care of it's
local community. Therefore, all
products are produced using labor and services that are found local to our Santa
Rosa, CA USA location. Paian Instruments will not try to exploit cheap
labor found in other geographic locations. Furthermore, we will not
tolerate companies that do exploit cheap labor.
Where components may be derived
from other companies, they should adhere to the 'At Home' principle too.

Friendly) - All materials are organic and naturally produced. Woods
utilized do not consist of endangered species and are not collected from
endangered lands. Finishes, Shellac and Tung Oil, are naturally produced.
Damaged areas can be easily repaired: rendering the damaged area
indistinguishable.
